I was a pioneer in voter suppression

When I was secretary of state, I worked to purge voter rolls, forcing tens of thousands of Georgians to reregister, prove they were citizens and go through the whole process again. We were ordered to stop the purges by the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

When the Trump administration pulled away from challenging a Texas voter ID law, I heralded the decision on Twitter, calling it “commonsense [sic].” Unfortunately, the appeals court ruled that the Texas law violates the Voting Rights Act.

As your representative in Congress, you can bet that I’ll continue to do everything in my power to ensure that fewer of “them” and more of “us” have the right to vote.
